Al Bates x Barefoot Ceylon

How Many Hands.
Solo Show, 9–15 February 2026
Barefoot Gallery, Colombo, Sri Lanka

This collection signifies an appreciation
for the hands used to dye, wash, weave,
cut and stitch. For the hands used to
pick fruit and share it with those close
by. Hands used to build furniture and
outside-in homes. Hands used to gather
chairs for the sharing of stories and
food. Hands used to shape clay and
plant trees.

This exhibition features textile artworks
made during my time working on the
Barefoot Design team. Moving to Sri
Lanka in July 2025, these works draw
on my exploration of a new place to
call home.
